Yes, we are lucky to be living in the beautiful Sunshine State, but we must be mindful that we have some of the highest rates of skin cancer in the world. Too many of us know all too well the damage that the sun’s radiation can cause to our skin.
What about our eyes though?
It may surprise you to know that your eyes experience damage from sun exposure as well. UV radiation can burn the front surface of the eye, similar to a sunburn on the skin. Like the skin, that damage builds up over a lifetime and can cause permanent damage. Damage from UV radiation contributes to cataract development, macular degeneration, squamous cell cancers on the eye, skin cancers in the delicate skin around the eye and the list goes on.
What is not so well known is that the heat of the sun has no relation to the amount of UV radiation there is. For this reason, Cancer Council Australia recommends protecting your eyes from UV at all times when outside during daylight hours, year-round.
So, what can you do to protect your eyes?
Come in and see us today, and let us help you to protect your eyes.
