Our Frames at Somerville & Merrin Optometrists

Mar 12, 2024

The frames we stock at Somerville and Merrin range from quirky to classic, neutral to vibrant, fine and simple to bold and daring.

To give you some insight into how we choose what you see on our shelves, we've asked our Stock Manager, Danielle, some questions about our frame ranges:

Where do our frames come from?

We have a range of frame suppliers from all over Australia who distribute scores of global and local brands. Sales representatives visit our practice regularly throughout the year to show us the latest designs and with most of the brands we stock having new releases 2-3 times a year, this means we can always have the latest looks on display.

How do we choose the frames we sell?

During the visits from our sales representatives, frames are handpicked for our practices by our stock manager with input from our other Optical Dispenser staff members. Selecting frames out of the hundreds we see at each visit can be quite tricky, but we endeavour to make sure we have a wide range of styles, colours and price points in our stock so we can cater for all our patients.

What makes our frames different to other franchise optical practices?

In most cases, franchises will have restrictions on brands they can purchase, with select frame models chosen to be stocked in every one of their practices. Also, these selected frames will then be restocked repeatedly.

As an independent optical practice, we have a huge range of choice when it comes to the suppliers and brands we can choose to purchase and we choose not to restock the exact same frames as much as possible. This means you will see new designs, new colours, new looks every time you visit us. It also means that the frame you select for your new eyewear is the one you get, so there’s no concern about having the colour or pattern look a little different or the frame not feeling the same as when you first tried it on.

How do we care for the frames on our shelves?

We are meticulous in caring for all our frames until they are chosen by one of our wonderful patients. Our frame display racks were chosen to ensure our frames are held securely and with minimal touch-points on the frames to keep them safe and prevent any marks. All extra frames in the drawers are carefully placed one by one on soft rubber matting to protect from any rubbing or damage while awaiting their turn on the shelf. In addition to this, any frame that is tried on by a customer is cleaned and sanitised before going back on the shelf.

For some, choosing a new spectacle frame can be an overwhelming process, but rest assured our experienced Optical Dispensers are always on hand to help you find your perfect look.  Book your eye examination with us today at one of our conveniently located Toowoomba practices to start your new eyewear journey!
